Traditional Wooden Boats

The traditionally built wooden boat is an assembly of  large numbers of individual components.

Each one, with a specific purpose, contributes to the strength and stiffness of the boat.WhatsApp Image 2024 11 18 at 10.29.41 1 .jpeg

The oldest of what remains a current, if not not common, construction method is the most elaborate.

The elegance of the construction and the natural beauty and warmth of wood engender an appeal for many which other construction methods and materials simply can't match.

While newbuildings continue, they are not numerous and the majority of wooden boats which come to the market were built sixty or more years ago. That these boats survive and continue to be sailed in serviceable condition is testament to the efficacy and quality of their construction and materials.

However unless these boats have been in responsible ownership and have had a major refit within the last 15 years it is is likely an extensive restoration will be required at a cost which will exceed the restored value. That this is the case may not always be obvious and there is simply no substitute to experience and objectivity when it comes to the proper survey of these boats.

There remains a supply of good wooden boats to the market which offer value and will provide pleasure and service for many years. This isnt surprising, as for many the enjoyment and motivation for ownership of these boats is frequently their preservation as well as use.

As wooden boat owners actively involved in restorations we offer our services as surveyors of traditional wooden boats.
